Creating Music for Media Projects

One of the more creative and awe inspiring sessions I attended was the session at the end of the day called “Creating Music for Media Projects”. The title is actually a bit misleading as the session was under the Video Tech session and dealt with more than just creating music. It dealt with the pre-production, production and post-production of creating not only music, but video projects as well.
Mr. Robert Goetsch went over some projects his students created in his Video Tech I, II, and III classes offered to students at Alief ISD Elsik 9th Grade Center. They were unbelievable! Take a look for yourself: Elisk Ninth Grade Center. You will find some of the better videos linked on the right hand side of the website.
Below is a list of software that his students used to create those videos:
- Celtx Pre-Production Software (Free Download) – http://celtx.com
- Magix Music Maker (Music Making Software; $55 – $99) – http://www.magix.com/us/music-maker/
- Adobe Premier Pro/Elements
- Adobe Audition
- Adobe Encore DVD Authoring Software
- Adobe Photoshop – http://www.adobe.com
One of the things that people questioned was the pricing of some of the software, especially the Adobe products, which most felt were a little too expensive for their budgets. Goetsch did provide some alternative such as Sony Vegas and Sony Acid, however some of those products are still pretty pricey for some schools.
I will provide links to either less expensive software or open source software alternatives as soon as I find some.
Still, it was a very good presentation and it got my creative juices flowing and got me thinking about some possible professional development training when I get back to the office.
